ok

firstly, bad voice synch. no, it has nothing to do with wether you've got broadband or not. here's what you do: set the sound as "streaming" instead of "event", that way it will look fine on every computer, not just on yours as I think the case is now.
Pacing was a bit slow, make it faster for the next episode. make the intro alot shorter, and better looking (that canvas thing or whatever it was didn't look too good, honestly). great you made a song of your own though. try and include a few more jokes the next time, as well...anyway, cheers

CGSstudios responds:

OK, the canvas thing is a mockery of the old style photos of cheers, and ill fix the sound for next time, cut me some slack, this is my first animation i've uploaded! ;)

that was... cool!

not even 10 000 views but still 250 reviews? that's a good proof that the film is really good, and really liked by the few that have seen it. should be on the front page, for example instead of that stupid "Newgrounds the legend". so, um, it's good, but I still feel I should give you some constructive criticism, mostly small things but still.
1) I didn't really like the way the clocks blinked... you shouldn't have tweened it, you should have you know had eyelids or whatever, that just didn't look too good
2) using weapons from CS is alright, I suppose, if you actually redraw them so that they fit the rest of the movie. the pistol was alright, but the other bigger weapon... it just didn't fit.
3) at times, the pacing wasn't all that good... but at other times, it was excellent.
4) some animation issues - when one of the clocks strike the guard in the head, the guard should obviously not just be standing there - the hit didn't have any impact.
5) I'm not really sure about the story, sorta think the strawberry should have saved more of the clocks. well... a matter of taste, I suppose, but anyway.
6) graphics weren't too good - except for the clocks, top-notch (except for the blinking issue). the 7-eyed humanoids were just, you know... disappointing.

anyways, it was very different and very original and very successful in actually creating an atmosphere. wicked!

AvocadoClock responds:

Wow, you really dug deep for this review!

1) Blinking of eyes... that's a really good idea! I'll remember that for the current movie I'm working on.

2) The CS weapons were just from the timing. Another friend of mine, PlumClock, was working on them right as I was making the movie, so I borrowed his graphics. I should have made my own weapons, but can you blame a guy for being lazy? =P

3) Yeah... I did have trouble in a few scenes with pacing. I wanted to go slow and fast in different areas, so it does get chopped in a few areas inbetween and such. When making the movie, I had a few times where I couldn't even think of anything to put in... so I made "filler" scenes that weren't ideas that I had originally planned on. The movie just kind of evolved as I made it.

4) Hahaha... yeah, I wanted to make the guard's eyes bulge, blink, or have some form or recoil from the impact, but the daunting task of 7 eyes to animate set me back. I thought to myself that it was a 1 second scene, so it wouldn't matter too much. I ought to scale priority on the amount of importance next time around instead of time then, lol.

5) If I had fit more clocks into the story, it might have been harder for it to flow with the amount of time I had with the song lyrics. If I had more clocks, it would've been harder to know their struggles personally, too. They would've been just a statistic, if you know what I mean. If 10 clocks were mowed down with a gun, it probably wouldn't be as dramatic as one clock fighting for his life against those same odds. And then vice-versa with saving the clocks. That's just my view on it though, so I'll take yours into account.

6) The crappy backgrounds were intentional (to a degree, haha) because I wanted to shift focus onto the characters. As for the 7 eyed creatures, they were originally going to be stick figures, so you can breath a sigh of relief that it wasn't as bad as it could've been, lol.

Thanks for the review!! I highly appreciate it!! <3

really nice

The animation was really nice, I just must get one of them computer pens... the sound, on the other hand, was just a big mess, especially in the beginning, when that flower-character fell asleep. overall, the story was a bit jerky and not especially funny. additionally, it was too slow-paced and I don't really think the comic timing was all that good. I didn't laugh, nor smirk. I just watched.

I think you did succeed with the character design, they look pretty good and original. their voices did on the other hand appear to be a bit forced. the backdrops were a nice touch, but they looked a bit shoddy. could need more work, and maybe you should use higher resolutions for them. I don't think the filesize was a problem as it is now, so you could afford it.

Anyways, the criticism is only meant as feedback, it's a really good start for a series. and looks a hundred times better than Ytown Public.

Cheers mate

McRhyme responds:

Alright, is Mackan! First off I want congratulate you on your games. I thought that the game with the green toad was great! Really cool. I know that I was disapointed when you didn't add Fred the Subtitute in your Portal Fighter - Bad move! We would have been best friends for ever man! Oh well, I guess I'll live. You gave me a nine so I guess you must have liked it even though you used some hard words. Not easy to impress you is it? No, I guess not.

It would be great if you did tell me where the pacing was bad. I know it stinks when Quadro says the line -"I think I'll pass" but really was nothing I could do.

Yes, do get one pen. My brand is WACOM and that's the best. It cost like £700. Really cheap!

Cheers mate! (I lived in London 6 months last year. I bet you're having a great time :)

well done but

naive, romantic and, in the end, wrong (although you didn't come up with it on your own). the whole concept of libertarian capitalism does sound nice in this presentation, but what can I say... I doubt that even if people were this nice, and followed these "guidelines for life", it would lead to "fairness". For example, is property really the result of your work and time etc? You don't have to be a social Einstein to realise that people are born into the world with property - in the end, this is the real theft.

LuxLucre responds:

Hey, it's not about being "nice" at all, it's about not initiating force. You can still be a hard person, no one says you have to love every one, just behave yourself and don't hit them unless they hit you first.

hum

I for one didn't find this especially funny. Sure, I too have sometimes cursed at the low ratings some of my films/games have got. key question: why didn't they get good ratings? because people didn't like them. The idea that you must be good at flash to judge how good a flash is, is extremely silly. If a flash is good, people will notice that. All of you who can't accept that your flash gets blammed have to realise that "having worked alot on it" simply isn't enough, if the movie is crap.

alright, at times people are really unfair and give really good films really low scores just because some minor issue (personal favourite: "hey why did you go do that to strawberryclock"). or people giving hostage situation 2 bad ratings because of the non-existent storyline... but really, most people voting high on THIS particular piece of crap are just extremely poor flash artists who get all of their worthless flash blammed. live with it. learn from it. make better flash.

DaDocta responds:

You just dont get it.. this is about people who blam for no reason.. There are 5 ratings above 0 but they choose 0 why?? for the points.. everyone agrees with this movie except for you.. oh well

a bit perverse

I really liked part 1, but this one... I don't know... sound is still crappy, animation most of the time sub-par (although you're a great illustrator). Well... don't let the few viewers get you down. Finish part 3!

Gerimi responds:

I would kill to get good sound quaility. I've bought an expensive mic, I've emailed other NG animators and asked them for tips, I clean up the audio w/ Soundedit. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get decent audio out of my computer. A lot of people have given me good suggestions. I've tried them all and it still sounds like shit. If anyone can help, please email me.

right

I'd be lying if I said one of the reasons I find this crappy is that this one beat my game Another Weird Ordeal to the number 1 spot in game of the week. THIS IS NO GAME AND I DESERVE THAT SPOT! (right, I know you thought "Movie / Interactive film" but agree, this shoulda been entered as a movie! you make one single choice...and you become game of the week!)

right, now that the anger, irritation and envy part is taken care of, for the film:

Nice graphics, obviously, but did you make them on your own? NO! Yeah yeah, you cut it out from the games which is a real shitjob. the only thing you did was Mario's hands when he's looking surprised (if that what it's supposed to look like). And I think that looked stupid.
Animation is kind of smooth, but I feel there's something missing when Sonic is doing his spin attack. And the slow motion thing, when Sonic's attacking Mario or something...that looks crappy, he's too poorly animated.

As for the music, it's perfect. Not a hard choice really. Sound FX are perfectly timed.

Now for something else. Randy, I understand you're proud of being number 1, but do you really think you deserve it? Sure, you've put quite some work into this, but all in all it's just (another brick in the wall, sorry, couldn't help myself) some blokes beating each other up. Look at Genyu's Blade and Xiao Xiao 3. Blokes beating each other up, but done with tons more style and better looking graphics (their own graphics too). Sure, it's not a bad flash, and it's not your "fault" it's in the top 50, you only made something people like. But you should not pretend that you've made something wonderful, "hey people, help me defending this piece of art from all bashers". reason for all the bashers voting X or 0 is that they don't think it's worth the attention it's got. Hell, I don't think it deserves the attention but I decided to vote with my heart (3). Of course, you can't undo what's been done. This one will remain in at least the top10, I bet. But it's really not worth it.

Randy-Solem responds:

I'll just let the NG people speak for themselves with my score. Jesus, with the #1 spot comes jelousy, and a big FUCK YOU. And what the fuck is a bloke?

everybody calm down

I agree with Darvon. Right, you should rate a film according to what you think it's worth, but let's check out the scale:
0 = total dog shit! no effort was put into this!
okay, give a film a 0 if no effort was put into it
1 = One of the worst portal entries yet!
Incredibly many films end up with scores something like this. "One of the worst" does not mean "pretty much all films". Give a 1 if you think the film is just a ugly piece of shit and waste of time but with at least some effort put into it
2 = isn't anything special, nothing new
Now very few movies with an effort put into them (like this one) deserve a rate lower than this. 2's should be what everybody uses the most - if it's a decent attempt, but not funny / good-looking / etc. Even if you hate the film you shouldn't rate it lower if the author has put some effort into it!
3 = for a decent movie and bla bla
Okay I haven't got the ork to go on, put the point is people give films to low grades making authors really pissed. When you work really hard on something and then get a stupidly low score when you really deserve better and then get clanked down on by dumbarses who call themselves "critics" because they can't make films! Fuck them! If you haven't made a film you shouldn't be able to get a profile at all! fuck those wankers who say "yeah, don't write reviews until you've got some experience"!

DARVON PLEASE UPLOAD DOOMED CITY 3 AGAIN BECAUSE I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE IT AND ME AND MY 5.10 VOTES WILL MOST PROBABLY GIVE YOU A 5!

(5 stands for godlike - which the first one was)

Darvon responds:

Thanks man, I'm glad I have so many supporters. I'll be sure to get Doomed City 3 back online as soon as I can!

...

I feels orry for all of you who live in the United States...there seems to be hell of a lot killing around! but on the other hand, you're all stupid wankers who deserve it. Well well. Move to Sweden and experience paradise. On second thought, don't, you'd only destroy everything for everybody else. Why? Because you were born in the United States of Coca-Cola. You're all conservative right-wing and christian.

NewEvolution responds:

hmm....that would be like saying sweeden is full of 7ft blondes with huge tits, all of whom wear horned hats and their hair in braids all the time. generalizations just don't fly. as for right-wing and christian, i'm agnostic and liberal, so there goes your curve. as for a hell of a lot of killing, we've got a hell of a lot more people than sweden, so why shouldn't there be more killing based on that alone. and news programs in foreign countries always hype up the bad sensational foreign news, as it's the only news people will care about, as it's already not from their country. in summation...don't attack my country, i didn't draw him shooting a swede.

what the bloody hell do you think you're doing?

looks alright, but why the hell did you post this film when it's so incredibly unfinished? How are we supposed to be able to tell if it's going to be something good when all that happens is that some psychic japanese flashes off and then disappears? this is just irritating and a waste of time, not only for me but also for you. How the bloody hell are you supposed to get any good feedback on this, eh?
come back when you're ready with it, it'll sure be nice but never again go post unfinished rubbish (rubbish this unfinished)!

Squinty responds:

I wouldnt post an unfinished movie if i didnt expect reviews like this. Let me show you why I am expecting some good feedback: Just read the rest of the reviews pal.
