loved this :)

good job!

professional

this looks awesome, really professional, I was surprised to see your 16-year old. Loved the looks and music of the persistance mode, but you should have put a checkpoint thing in there somewhere and I would have kept playing for much longer. Yeah, fersure, now you can brag how you've made the hardest mouse maze game ever, but is that really an accomplishment? This would have been so much more popular and well-rated if you had put in a checkpoint thing, trust me.

Great idea!

I just love the simplicity! and the complexity. This an awesome concept, no story, no nothing, just a place to escape from. I'm impressed! If you want "guest authors" doing these I'd love to do one.

great game

but one major flaw that made me stop playing - I accidentally pressed "main menu" when I fucked up on mission whatever where you go to the classroom. IRRITATING!! I'd have liked to play on but not ready to those 10 stages or whatever again. Passwords are a good thing I guess but I didn't see any?? Anyway, a "are you sure you want to quit?" kind of reconfirmation would have been good...

Awesome

It's a really cool game, great work! There's very many good stuff about the game but I'll concentrate on what I think needs improvement

1) The CPU cannot shoot anything above them. They will automatically shoot at the same angle but below them instead. This is a pretty big bug, which I really think needs doing something about it.

2) The CPU is generally really good and I have no idea how you managed to do it, BUT, it craps out sometimes, shoots its own in the head and stuff like that.

3) Why did you go for sticks? Its such a great oppurtunity to introduce some cool characters of your own of any design. I personally would have LOVED to be able to use my own characters for a concept as great as this, instead of chosing boring sticks.

4) I didn't like the music and it was too compressed, I do completely understand why but still... I'd have preferred 2 songs with twice as good compression than 4 as it was... But you included an option to turn it off so no minus for that!

Keep the good work up, make a sequel to this one!

Good game

I didn't like the previous one and kept thinking, "wow, this is a big improvement". but then I played the old one again and realised I never played it much at all before discarding it, and that you've hardly improved anything at all. Still, when it comes to welldone platform games like this which are fun to play without a novelty factor, it doesn't really matter. There are changes that could be done though, like a ducknig option would be nice, even if it's completely useless it gives you a strong (false?) feeling of interactivity. The levels could obvoiusly have been more decorative (it doesn't affect the speed at all if you use the bitmap cache flash 8 thing). I'd like to ask you though, how did you do the hitTesting? One giant shape flag for the entire stage and individual ones for the moving platforms? Did you use arrays? If you would reply I'd be very thankful.

The-EXP responds:

lucy had 5 hit points on her, 2 on her feet to measure if she was touching the floor. 1 on her head to measure if she's hitting a roof, 1 either side of her for the walls and one on her sword for the enemies to detect when it is hitting them.
Bitmap caching brought the framerate down to about 5 fps even on my computer. Thanks for playing though and i'm glad it made you rethink the first one.

Great

It's a great game when it comes to level design and programming. Awesome. It's a really good game when it comes to character animation. It's generally an ok game when it comes to the graphics but what's the biggest letdown is the character design, which I think is really lacking. At first I thought the simplicity might have something to do with processing power but considering the detail of the backgrounds I guess that's mistaken. Hotpanst himself is OK I guess (although lacking character) but the enemies, I mean the spiders, they are so generic, the mice are better but...
I also wish there would be more colour, I guess grayscale can be stylistic but I think this game wouldn't suffer at all from a splash of colour. Still, this is the best NG platformer, no doubt. I just wish it had awesome character design as well as awesome level design.
Oh and the music is really good, gotta check out API's other stuff.

Great game

Really surprised at the low score, but I guess it will rise once you get picked up for frontpage. Here's a bug though, I got stuck between a lamppost and a tree, below the cinema. I liked "bice street" by the way, subliminal messages for the Americans :)

Kianis responds:

Oh wow! Superbrightfuture! Actually I think my love for the word was initiated when I played your games (I rembember there was a pack of cigarettes with the brandname "bice")! Thanks for the bug report. Yeah, we'll see if I get a FP or not, hope so ;)

Great but horrid controls

It seems to be a really awesome game (I'm still playing it) but the controls are really really horrible and probably pulling down your score a whole lot. Here are two options for you:

1) let us use the arrow keys (you might not now how to do that though, which leaves us with option 2)

2) let us click anywhere in the room/location and interact with every object available without forcing us to walk next to it. that's how most adventure games are done.

I'm sure the game would be above 4.00 if the controls weren't so horrible.

Also, you should mail somebody at ArmorGames or CrazyMonkeygames to get a sponsorship for this game, I definately think it's good enough (even with the current controls). You could probably get at least 300 dollars.

Good luck on future games!

Not very good

If this really took you four years (as opposed to two weeks) I feel kind of sorry for you. Your graphics look great, really beautiful, but this game has literaly NOTHING except for that. You have like, 4 animations for the main character, wtf is that? Jump, run, shoot and die. I didn't get past the first level (i.e. beyond that cutscene where she finds the bad guys) even though I tried twice, so I don't know if there were more enemies but even if the 2nd level had a new enemy you should have had more than just one in the first!! And how many animations did you have for that ONE enemy? Duck, die, shoot, duck and shoot. Yeah, that IS poor.

the characters are way too cliche (and where does Natasha Yi come into the game? I don't think the main character is very reminiscent of her...

the game is too hard, which is bad, because rule no1 for flash games is don't make 'em to hard. if you still want to make it hard, give us an "easy" option or give us unlimited amounts of continues. some people want a challenge but 90% don't. besides, the challenge in this game isn't a fun kind of challenge, it's just boring.

And the music is REALLY repititive.

It's a good attempt but seeing you are a professional this is a big letdown. Many under 20 year old amateurs at this site make MUCH better games than this (well, considering the maker of RaidenX was 14, I guess that says more about them than you)...

I hope you find the reviews you get here on NG helpful because there is a lot of improvement you can make. With your obvious talent for drawing I think you should be able to make much better games.
